SEATTLE -- Seattle Seahawks cornerback Walter Thurmond will be suspended for four games for violating the NFL's rules nor non-PED substances, according to a report by

Thurmond is appealing the suspension but plans to drop the appeal early next week in order to return in time for the playoffs, reporter Ian Rapoport said.

Thurmond took to Twitter to apologize to his family and teammates: The loss of Thurmond would be another blow to the Seahawks' secondary, which has already lost cornerback Brandon Browner to a groin injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for at least another month.

The Seahawks were off this week but face the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football on Dec. 2 in a game that will have a big impact on who controls the top seed in the NFC.
