The Portland Winterhawks (34-12-2-3) extended their winning streak to eight games with an 8-1 victory over the visiting Everett Silvertips (25-18-7-1) Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in front of 4,648 fans.

Paul Bittner led the way for the Hawks with a four-point game with two goals and two assists, and he struck just 1:15 into the game for the early 1-0 lead. Everett tied it at the 5:25 mark on a power play goal by Patrick Bajkov, but Bittner scored his second of the period in a goalmouth scramble at the 13:20 mark as Portland regained a lead at 2-1. Portland extended the advantage to 3-1 at the 16:07 mark on Chase De Leo’s 29th goal of the season, a lead they took into the second period.

Portland then scored four in the second period, starting early on a 5-on-3 power play when Oliver Bjorkstrand pounced on a loose puck in front of the Silvertips’ net and fired it in for a 4-1 Portland lead. The Hawks made it 5-1 at the 7:35 on a highlight reel goal from Brendan Leipsic. He brought the puck into the Everett zone, cut across the middle then went between his legs to fool Silvertips netminder Austin Lotz, and buried the chance for his 30th of the season.

The Hawks kept the pressure going, and at the 10:47 mark Bittner made a great behind-the-back pass in traffic to Nic Petan, who scored to make it 6-1. Just 1:22 later, Ethan Price scored to make it a 7-1 lead, leading to Everett replacing Lotz in goal with Daniel Cotton.

Portland added a late third period goal from Dominic Turgeon to finish with the 8-1 win.

Along with four points from Bittner, seven other players registered two points.

Corbin Boes picked up the win in net, making 27 saves on 28 shots.

The Hawks are back in action Friday when they host the Spokane Chiefs at the Moda Center.
