PORTLAND, Ore. - After three long years stuck in the doldrums alongside the rest of the NBA's also-rans, the Portland Trail Blazers are back where they belong: in the playoffs. And that means a change is coming to the Rose Quarter.

The team is converting the Rose Quarter to "Rip City Central" to help give the team a boost and to give fans a place to focus their energy.

The Blazers open their playoff series on Sunday against the Rockets in Houston. With games one and two of the best-of-7 series being played on the road, the Blazers are hosting viewing parties inside Dr. Jack's, the new restaurant next to the Moda Center.

For the games three and four, the Blazers are back in Portland, and the Rose Quarter will have an assortment of activities for fans starting hours before the games. The Blazers are planning to have live bands, DJs, a kids zone, live radio broadcasts, free giveaways, great food, drinks and more. There will be Pop-a-Shot contests and giveaways.

Dr. Jack's will also host viewing parties during home games. But the schedule is slightly different depending on where the games are being played.

  • Away games: Dr. Jack's will open 90 minutes before tip-off.
  • Home games: Dr. Jack's will open 3 hours before tip-off.

Earlier Friday, fans were invited to Tom McCall Waterfront Park for a ticket giveaway. Moda Health had 15 pairs of tickets for fans dressed in their best Blazers gear. That brought out a lot of fans dressed up in red and black.
