EUGENE, Ore. -- Before he got the results of a scan of his knee, Duck cornerback Walter Thurmond III was optimistic but realistic about his prospects following a crushing hit to his knee on the opening play against Cal Saturday.

"Right after it happened, speculated about a sprain," Thurmond said Monday. "I've never felt anything like that before, different type of injury than I've had in the past."

The word from the UO now is that Thurmondwill miss the remainder of the year.

GoDucks.com reported that the MRI on Thurmond’s right knee showed damage requiring surgery. The Ducks co-captain will miss the final eight games of the season and any bowl games.
