Jeff Fulchino pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings and the Omaha Royals defeated Portland 7-1 Wednesday afternoon at Rosenblatt Stadium to snap the Beavers’ six-game winning streak.

Mitch Maier hit his third home run of the year, Ryan Shealy was 3-for-4 with double and an RBI, and Mike Aviles scored three runs to lead the Royals (16-15).

Fulchino (1-0), who was making his second start for the Royals, struck out four and scattered three walks in the victory. An error led to an unearned run off Devon Lowery in his 2 1/3 innings of relief work, and Neal Musser worked a 1-2-3 ninth as the Royals held Portland to just four hits.

Josh Geer (2-3) gave up six runs, seven hits and four walks in six innings to suffer the loss, his first on the road this season.

Chase Headley was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI double for the Beavers (16-15). Craig Stansberry walked and doubled, extending his hitting streak to seven games.

Already up by a run, the Royals plated three runs in the fourth inning. Aviles led off the inning with a walk and later scored on a wild pitch from Geer. Mike Stodolka added an RBI single and Chris Lubanski hit a run-scoring double with two outs as the Royals extended their lead to 4-0.

Maier led off the fifth with a solo homer off Geer and David Matranga scored from third on another wild pitch from the right-hander.

The Beavers continue their series with the Royals Thursday in a 4:35 p.m. (Pacific) start at Rosenblatt.

NOTES: Chip Ambres was 0-for-3 with a walk to have his 10-game hitting streak come to an end.
