Brian Myrow’s three-run homer capped a seven-run fifth inning that helped the Portland Beavers win their first road series since August 2006 with an 11-7 victory over the Las Vegas 51s Monday afternoon at Cashman Field.

Vincent Sinisi had three doubles and four RBIs, and Royce Huffman was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles for the Beavers, who return to PGE Park Tuesday night to begin a four-game series with Iowa, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

Portland (23-27), which improved to 12-15 on the road this season, took three of four from the 51s (23-27) to secure its first road set since a 3-1 series victory against Omaha at Rosenblatt Stadium, Aug. 2-5, 2006. The Beavers have not lost a series away from PGE Park in their last five tries and have won seven of their last 10 road games.

Jack Cassel evened his record at 4-4 after allowing four runs (3 earned) on 11 hits in six innings of work.

Down by two, Portland took the lead in the fifth on an RBI single by Josh Howard and a two-run double by Sinisi. Pete Laforest then walked, Huffman followed with an RBI double and Myrow belted his third homer of the year to propel the Beavers to an 8-3 lead. It was their highest single-inning run total of the season.

Wilson Valdez, Sergio Garcia and Matt Kemp each had three hits to pace the 51s.

Hong-Chih Kuo (0-1) was on the hook for five runs (4 earned) to suffer his first loss of the season.

Valdez’ single through the right side plated Bigbie and Garcia for a 2-0 Las Vegas lead in the second.

The Beavers halved their deficit in the fourth when Craig Stansberry scored on the first of Sinisi’s doubles, but Larry Bigbie restored the two-run cushion with a solo homer that led off the bottom of the fourth.

The 51s responded to the Beavers’ seven-run outburst when Mitch Jones drove in his ninth run of the series with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. They trimmed their deficit to 8-5 as Kemp, who had two doubles and a triple, scored on a sac fly from Delwyn Young in the seventh.

Young drove in three runs, including a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth.

Michael Johnson had an RBI single and Sinisi plated two more with his third double of the game in the eighth to boost Portland’s lead to 11-5 at the time.

NOTES: The 51s stranded 43 base runners in the series … the Beavers have homered in eight straight and have committed at least one error in nine straight and in 16 of their last 17 games … both teams tallied 15 hits in the game.
