PORTLAND, Ore. – Royce Huffman notched his second four-hit game in five days and Ray Chang drove in three runs as the Portland Beavers treated area families to a 7-6 victory over the Salt Lake Bees on Father’s Day at PGE Park before 10,277, the largest crowd of the season.

The Beavers (32-38) had two earlier leads go by the wayside before making one stick in the sixth.

Huffman was 4-for-4 with a home run, a double and three runs scored for the Beavers, who had seven extra-base hits, including six doubles. He reached on a leadoff double to start the sixth and scored on a corresponding double by Chang to tie it at 6-6. Chang moved to third on a wild pitch and was squeezed home with the go-ahead run on a well-placed bunt by Josh Howard to give Portland a lead it would hold on to.

Ryan Budde hit a three-run double and Brandon Wood belted a mammoth two-run homer off the top portion of the seven-story manual scoreboard in left-center to lead the Bees (37-34).

Royce Ring (4-0) worked an inning of relief for the win. Salt Lake starter Joe Saunders (3-5) gave up seven runs (4 earned) on eight hits in six innings for the loss.

Scott Cassidy eluded the possible trials of a leadoff double in the top of the ninth to get his fourth save.

Starter Ryan Ketchner limited the Bees to two runs and four hits in five innings of work for the Beavers. Ketchner left the game with a three-run lead but is still in search of his first Triple-A victory after the Bees took the lead against the bullpen with a four-run top of the sixth.

Trailing 5-2, the Bees overtook Portland with an RBI double off the top of the wall in left by Mike Eylward and a three-run double from Budde against reliever Jared Wells, who issued three walks in the inning.

Earlier, a two-out double by Chang plated Brian Myrow and Huffman to give the Beavers their second lead in the Portland fourth. Luke Carlin followed with a double for a 4-2 advantage. All three runs in the inning were unearned as the result of a one-out fielding error by Eylward, the Salt Lake first baseman.

Myrow sliced a two-out double down the left field line to score Mike Sansoe with two outs in the fifth.

Portland is off Monday and begins a four-game series at Fresno Tuesday night.

The Beavers struck first on a solo homer to left by Huffman in the second, but, in the third, Ketchner gave up Wood’s two-run homer that made it 2-1 in favor of the Bees.

NOTES: Ketchner struck out the side in the fourth and retired the last seven batters he faced before coming out after five innings … the Beavers gave out Father’s Day caps to the first 1,000 dads and awarded a trip to Seattle for a Mariners game to one lucky pop. The contest winner was determined by a post-game home run derby … the Beavers used six pitchers … Portland was 5-3 on the homestand.
