Beavers get set for College World Series sequel
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Get ready for North Carolina-Oregon State -- the sequel.
North Carolina beat Rice last night to set up a rematch of last year's College World Series championship series.
The Beavers won that series two games to one, becoming the first truly Northern-based school to win the College World Series since 1966.
This year's best-of-three final starts tomorrow.
It's only the second time in the history of the College World Series that the same two teams have played for the title in back-to-back seasons.
Arizona State and Southern Cal did in 1972 and 1973.
Anybody wondering how hot Oregon State is as it heads to the College World Series finals should consider this: The Beavers haven't trailed anyone in more than two weeks.
The span includes 52 innings and parts of six games, dating to its June 5 game against Virginia. The Beavers won that game 7-3. Oregon State hasn't lost since its second game in the NCAA tournament.
The team's confidence is at a high point right now after its run in Omaha. The nationally-unseeded national champs have looked more well-rounded than any other team.
The Beavers have held their opposition to three runs or fewer in eight of 10 games this postseason.
They're also getting clutch hits with two outs, when they've driven in 12 of 22 runs.
