MILWAUKIE, Ore. - Professional baseball will not be played in Milwaukie anytime soon, if at all.

City officials announced Tuesday that after months of negotiations a deadline to reach an agreement had not been met. One of the reasons cited is a plan to bring the Yakima Bears to Hillsboro.

The efforts to bring a minor league team to Milwaukie began more than a year ago and has cost the city $160,000 so far.

Still, the idea is not quite dead yet. Coming up on August 7, the City Council will talk baseball once again and decide whether they want to keep pursuing the project.
