PORTLAND, Ore. – Timbers defender Mikael Silvestre tore his ACL during a match against New England on Thursday evening.
The team announced the severity of the injury on Friday afternoon. Silvestre will undergo surgery on his knee once the injury has been stabilized.
He is expected to be out for 6-9 months, according to a team spokesman.
Silvestre started eight of the Timbers’ first nine matches and his injury leaves the team thin on defense.
He has played every minute of the club’s recent 312-minute shutout streak, the team said.
