We watched the fires smolder all night and grow today, 8/18/10. Volunteer firefighters worked in Tygh Valley (but also up on Juniper Flat headed south toward Maupin...heard there were 25+ fires up there yesterday/today) until BLM and others responded. Tankers dropped 5-6 loads, followed by a helicopter that dipped water from the White River, we think just above the falls.

I live on Tygh Ridge and yesterday we fought fires all day. Came within feet of our house. Fires are starting up again tonight.

Does any one know where I might be able to pull up a map of the location of current fires burning in or near Central Oregon? I have family that is out of town, and I need to make sure that their property is not in any danger...

Totally agree, too. But the town of Maupin was put on Evacution Alert today. Isn't that of importance to Oregonians on the west side of the mountains? Maybe they have property or, more importantly, family and friends here. We're on watch, too.

Totaly agree...it is only news if it happens on the west side of mountains or in the Bend area. Maybe we should watch a different news station....but which one?

Thank you Sandra. This could have cost firefighters. Guess news is only good if it's in Portland or west side. Not much on this side makes the news
