ROWENA CREST, Ore. - These photos of the Highway 8 Fire near the town of Lyle, Wash., in the Columbia River Gorge were shot shortly after midnight on Aug. 29th from Rowena Crest on the Oregon side of the Columbia River.

The fire now apparenlty smolders and filling the Klickitat River canyon with smoke.

One photo (in gallery) shows a closeup of a flame burning the brush near a powerline tower.
