Big Trees and Rainy Misty Days

Although all seasons are nice in the forest, autumn is my favorite season to go out hiking among trees. The wet weather really "dials-in" the the lichens and liverworts on trunks and bark. And washes dust off the leaves. This huge tree is in the park roughly 1/2 hours south of Brookings, just a few miles south of the border line. Oregon has a few redwoods nearby too, just a bit smaller. The best photos I have of this large one happen to both be from our wonderful rainy weather.

I do believe the Del Norte tree is possibly the most handsome and justly proportioned of his noble race, sporting the desirable height of 205 cubits head to foot, and a girth of almost 50.

Now that it's rifle hunting season, I'd highly recommend you wear Hunter Orange when out traipsing in the woods. It could save your life.
