Larch Mountain Rd. closes Nov. 24

Larch Mountain Road in eastern Multnomah County will be closing Wednesday morning for the winter.

Multnomah County Transportation will install snow gated on Larch Mountain Rd. near milepost 10 on Wednesday, November 24 at 8 a.m. The road will reopen in spring or sometimes even as late as early summer after the snowmelt.

"The closure protects the traveling public from adverse weather conditions and reduces maintenance costs associated with snow removal," the Multnomah County Transportation press release said.

According to the County, Larch Mountain Road reaches an elevation of 4,055 feet, making it the highest road in the county.

Travelers driving to Larch Mountain prior to Wednesday are advised to carry tire chains because of the recent snowfall.
