The Central Oregon city of Fossil (pop 450) awoke to 12 degree temperatures and a winter wonderland. Snow in the John Day Basin is dry and powdery, perfect for dogs, sleds, and snow forts. Maddie the black lab was rarin' to play some "snow ball". Meanwhile, her people were trying to build the fire to stave off 47 degree indoor temp, and wondering why they had put off stacking the woodpile - before the snow set in.
