Security Breach Justice Center Hillsboro

The Entire Washington County Courthouse and Justice Center Complex was left completely unsecured and unattended for over 4 hours Friday morning.

The entry doors operate on a time lock and were not reprogrammed for the Christmas Eve Holiday.

A friend of mine and I were looking for a notary and were amazed to walk right in the main doors and wander around the first floor with no one present. We yelled out for someone but got no answer so we proceeded to the Justice Center and to the County Clerk's Desk and still no one was around.

We eventually called the police dispatch to report the problem and it took about an hour for someone to respond.

It is the responsibility of the Sheriff's Office to secure the building. There was no security or anyone anywhere.

To be safe at this point the entire Courthouse and Justice Center needs to be searched for hidden weapons and suspicious packages but I doubt if that is going to happen.

The responding officers didn't even bother to check if anyone was in the building or if any vandalism had occurred. They spent a total of 5 seconds and didn't even write a report.

Sure you go ahead and pay for the courthouse to be searched because I'm really sure that every terrorist and criminal knew it was unsecure, responded, and did something naughty. give me a break

The $8.50 an hour entrance security guards do a much better job of keeping the buildings secure. Maybe they should put them in charge of programming the doors.

FYI there is a notary in the courthouse. Banks are closed on the 24th, as with the other dumb places you mentioned.

;kjgxd: Unless there was a sign that said "no trespassing" or the building was reasonably secured against entry, there is no "trespassing." Burglary would only occur if they entered the building unlawfully with intent to commit a felony or steal.

so you trespassed. maybe burglary-entering without permission, perhaps did something that wasn't welcomed by the court (yelling out). Looking for notary: try, real estate office, bank, credit union, insurance agency or (go figure) online. Dumb.

I noticed that I spelled breach wrong right after I posted it but have no way to correct the error. They really need a preview area, It's easy to miss a word in the small text box that they provide to post the story in.

Re "security breech": the word you are looking for is "breach"; your title should read "security breach".
