PS3 Sparks Debate

The PlayStation 3
What comes to mind when those words are spoken?
Fun and games?

How about Controversial ?

This device has caused a great deal of controversy Ranging a possible band in Norway due to unfair ToS's that protect the consumer to Hackers entering into the system and breaching it Which has lead to a Lawsuit with an infamous hacker "gehot"
to a Lawsuit that is pending Known as the "Other OS" Lawsuit that states SCEA wrongfully had removed the "Other OS" function in which was deemed as a security threat , The lawsuit also states that the "Other OS" was taken from a group of consoles that a Consumer had purchased.

What does all this have to do with us the consumers?

It has a great deal to do with us in the fact that we are not owners of the PS3. You heard me right, it is against the law for us to access anything with in it.

And this is the reason why hackers have hacked, This is the reason why it is possibly about to band in Norway and this is Thomas Nortvedt of the Norwegian Consumer Council had to say.

"Sony claims a universal right to change or remove functionality from the gaming console," said Thomas Nortvedt of the Norwegian Consumer Council. "In our opinion this is in clear violation of the Marketing Control Act, and not at the least it is a breach of trust between the consumer and Sony."

The Norwegian Consumer Council also argues that the terms ‘update’ and ‘upgrade’ implies feature enhancements, not redactions.

It is believed that Sony pulled the “other OS” function because, in allowing users to install Linux on their PS3, users had level of access to the system that could allow for unauthorised hacking and piracy.

However a new threat has emerged as the Console has been hacked, the Keys have been found and released to the public .
and Sony is working hard to put the "Genie back in the Bottle" with no Luck at all.

SCEA has even went so as far as to to ask the judge to grant them expedited discovery so they can gather IP addresses of every one that has spoke of, viewed the video there of, or had any associations with any any content be it Twitter, goggle, papal and even YouTube.

Judge Susan Illston denied Sony the Expedited discovery.
How ever granted SCEA to search his PC.

spelling is easy says ... on Friday, Feb 25 at 8:37 PM

@disappointed - it's not so much that the author of the article can't spell, it's mostly the fact that this must be such a 3rd-rate network to allow a story to be presented on it's website with spelling & grammatical errors.

disappointed says ... on Thursday, Feb 24 at 10:22 AM

I admit, while I was reading the story I was wondering about the spelling, but it didn't spark any rage in me to jump on here and suggest he write a suicide note or reference a video about Burger King. Some people need to get a life.

also for those of you using a PS3 with 3.56, there has been issues arising from it. You may want to contact an attorney.

this article not only has mis-spelled words, but it has wrong word usage. not only that, but the information is wrong. someone needs to do a little more research before posting an article like this...

lee98632 says ... on Wednesday, Feb 16 at 8:15 PM

You can say that again tricky dicky, like the issues withthe HDD drive failing in 3.56 as well as the BD device mysteriously failing after the update.

Buhahaha! says ... on Wednesday, Feb 16 at 7:58 AM

Banned? From a website? That's classic. How? IP filtering? I'll just renew a DHCP lease and get a new IP. That means the next guy that gets my IP won't be able to look at KATU. And why would they alienate readers over a First Amendment issue?

Tricky Dicky says ... on Wednesday, Feb 16 at 7:10 AM

Hey if Sony needs the method of cracking the PS3 I am happy to send it to them or post it on a few web sites - but trust me there is ample information flowing out there and Sony's antics have attracted legions of techs to chip away at the PS3 carcass

"at least he is trying"? Maybe. However, if a person wants any sort of respect or acknowledgement, the LEAST that they could do is to use a grammar-check and/or spell-check. It takes two seconds. At the very least, the author could proof-read it.

Posting on what they think is important news to them that the networks can not cover. So Stop harassing this person and give him some breathing room. as I said before at least he is trying.

winds up in a legal matter. KATU Doesn't need this nor does the rest of the community. and remember before you go judging some one about there posting here, this isn't about being professional. It is about every day people.

Because if it is proven that it is cyber bullying , I can promise you one thing, you can and probably will be banned. I think that every one of you should make apologies to this person. and if you can not, then just leave him alone.

Anonymous says ... on Wednesday, Feb 16 at 2:32 AM

Instead of hounding him/her and putting him or her down, maybe you aught at least take time to say..well at least they tried. I don't see any one else trying to write a story like this. So just back off him for a bit.

Anonymous says ... on Wednesday, Feb 16 at 2:30 AM

say what you want to ease you conscience. KATU's management will decide . You have no rite to put this person down at least he is trying to convey a story. I Don't see any one else with guts enough to try a story like this.
