80 Sleeping bags going to the homeless

4 amazing kids donate 80 sleeping bags

A little over 2 years ago the 2 boys in this picture took a trip with their mother down to the Burnside Bridge to hand out food, clothing and other goods to Portland's homeless as part of the Bridgetown Ministries. On the way home the Spencer, 5 at the time, asked his mother where their new friends were going to sleep that night. After she explained he asked if he could buy them all houses to live in and eventually decided that sleeping bags was an easier thing to do. So he and his older brother, Brayden, went door to door in their neighborhood and hit their family up for money to buy some sleeping bags. Encouraged by the generosity of their friends and neighbors they made a video and asked the members of their church to help with them raise even more money. In a little over 18 months they had given out 78 sleeping bags to the homeless. Now the church has set up a ministry to help the boys keep track of the money and provide a charitable tax write off to anyone who wants one. This past Christmas the ministry brought in enough money for the boys, and their two sisters, to buy 80 brand new sleeping bags. They will be handing them out tonight under the Burnside Bridge.
