The naysayers of TriMet’s WES light rail transit (LRT) don't have the foresight to see the ultimate benefit of this new option for commuters, available since the beginning of 2009.
The commuter rail line is becoming more crowded as gas prices become more outrageous, freeway junctions become more tangled with traffic and businesses discover a new perk for personnel, by offering reduced or free passes to use the TriMet system of buses, streetcars and trains.
What better way for commuters heading home to the south in the afternoons, working in the metro areas, to bypass the tangled mess at the junction to the HW 217 and I-5 freeways at least, than to board the train in Beaverton and step off at the park and ride in Wilsonville!
For now, commuters in Woodburn, Keizer and Salem can connect using bus lines, but the feasibility of extending rail farther south in the Willamette Valley through House Bill 2408 will hopefully look brighter as the futility of long distance, freeway auto travel to work becomes more apparent.
