U.S. Anthem Singing Contest

The public is invited to listen to the Van Lang Vietnamese School Anthem Singing Contest on May 8 and 15, 1:00 to 3:30pm. The students of the Vietnamese school will compete in singing the anthem of the United States, either as soloists or in their classes. This is the first time in 20 years the school has had such a contest and the students are very excited about it.
"At first the students were very nervous about singing," said Thao Vu, a volunteer with the school. "But as the time gets closer they are getting more excited. I hope we can do this every year."
Money has been donated for prizes so the first place class will receive $100 and the second place class will receive $50. The first place soloist will receive $50 and the second place soloist will receive $25. The school has 23 classes, 101 volunteers and 630 students, ranging in age from 5 to 18 years old.
The Van Lang School is located at the PCC Southeast Center, 2305 SE 82nd Ave, Portland, OR 97216. Parking is available on campus and is free on Sundays. The competitions will be held in the Main Hall and everyone is welcome to attend.
