So not exactly a river monster but pretty darn close! On Sunday July 10, 2011 my father, son and other half went fishing early morning on the Columbia River. This was my 11 year old sons first time fishing for salmon and much to everyone's surprise he reeled himself in a 32 pound salmon! From what I hear the struggle was long and hard. It started with the first bite and the whining of the reel, that is when they knew they were in for a fight. The pole was passed from my son to his grandpa who continued the fight and when he was tired out it was passed off to dad, all while the boat slowly floated down the river and on lookers shouted encouragement. The river gave my son a great gift that day, a big salmon and a time that will be etched in his memory forever, the day he caught his first 32 pound salmon next to his proud grandpa and dad!
