May 2011, this Sitka Spruce shown in the photo - Raven's Tower - was discovered in Oswald West State Park. I thought it was a 706 point range tree.
The 850 to 900 point Klootchy Creek Spruce broke in 2007. That was the Oregon champ and a national co-champ. Afterward, the Cape Meares Giant Sitka Spruce was nominated, climbed and assigned status as Oregon's largest for that species. 144 feet tall at 743 points.
This week, with help, a re-measure of Raven's Tower indicated a potential of 747 points, and 222 feet height. The decision has not been made yet whether to nominate this Sitka Spruce yet. That may hinge on whether or not signs and trails would be built leading to it.
Raven's Tower was discovered May 22, 2011, by M. D. Vaden of Beaverton (who also discovered Tsunami the world's tallest Hemlock in March 2011)
