We woke up to this guy hanging out on our back deck this morning! Tried to hold him and he flew away. :(

it is a polyphemus moth.it is not a gypsy moth,nor is it a cecropia moth.

It is a male Polyphemus moth. You can distinguish them from the female by the larger and more pronounced antennae which enable the males to find the females. I haven't seen one of these in 27 years.

Antheraea Polyphemus or polyphemus moth. I had one on my front porch a few days vack. :) Cool photo. :)

They are cool looking. Its is a Cecropia Moth. Just google it. We have them in Minnesota also.

Its a polyphemus moth. We had one on the side of our house last weekend.

I believe this is a gypsy moth. They have tried to iradicate them for many years. I used to see them when I was young but it's been forever, until today, with your pic! Thank you!

Incredible beauty!! Those colors!!! It must be a girl lol....never saw such gorgeous dusty rose hues! I wonder what kind of moth she is? Or he....good capture...wonderful snapshot!

I saw the same moth!!! i took photos of him and posted it to facebook! we saw him outside of Diamond Darcy's in Troutdale!
