Oregon Swallowtail Butterfly

Oregon Swallowtail Butterfly

I was up in the Calapooya mountains this morning at a place called Holland Point Mt.. I at first thought I had captured a picture of a Monarch ,or Viceroy Butterfly. When I got home and blew the picture up I saw that it is an Oregon Swallowtail. The Oregon Swallowtail is the Oregon state insect.

Actually, that's a western tiger swallowtail. Oregon swallowtails are more black, and the red spot on the hindwing has a small black pupil, compared to the tiger, which has big black tiger stripes on the wings and no black pupil. Nice shot though!
