NEAR SHANIKO, Ore.—Remnants from an afternoon thunderstorm, smoke from a nearby wildfire and the setting sun made for great photography from Wasco County Sunday afternoon.

Two images were captured from along U.S. 97 between the small town of Shaniko and the U.S. 197 junction on Aug. 28. The third image was photographed at the U.S. 97 and Bakeoven Road intersection a few miles to the north.

Oregon Department of Transportation closed U.S. 197 between the U.S. 97 junction and Maupin late Sunday afternoon for firefighting activity.
