Hummingbird in the Snow !!!

Our little lady hummingbird wintered last year with us. I covered a shrub with a blanket and plastic on top and had a feeder under it too. She must have appreciated her accommodations because now she has 2 friends to winter with her. Of course, their little lives are in our hands, especially when frigid temps are here... the feeder gets changed every few hours. This takes true dedication - it is NOT a weekend project - once you start you have to continue through Spring.

Nice! I too support a few of the Annas hummingbirds around my place. You are correct, this takes dedication as they become reliant upon the food source that provide for them. I keep multiple feeders and rotate them as required. :o)

We live in Washougal and started feeding the hiummers year round a couple years ago. There are many that do not migrate and it is indeed a thrill to see them when it's freezing outside. We worry for them and yes, we cycle/change the water regularly.
