Man Made Boobytrap at Campground

This is scary. I had just set up my camp and I was walking down a trail and saw this. It was windy at the time and this scared the heck out of me. Someone has cut this large tree all the way around. My tent was set up within the danger range and I had to move it ASAP. This is extremely dangerous. the tree is 24 inches in diameter. Two large campsites are located under this tree. I reported this to the Sheriff who took a report but wasn't concerned enough to ask me where the tree was. OMG, I give up. This tree might weigh over 2 tons. I don't think your tent will protect you if this falls your way.

I just called the local Ranger and made a report, just to make sure it get's fixed. I just don't want to read about a family that was killed by a hazard that had been reported but ignored.

Report it to the park service, not the sheriff.

It's in WA. Umatilla NF. On the N Touchet R. Undeveloped, no name. Area should be closed until the wind blows it down, fishing season opens Thurs. It's 24 " diameter at the cut. Beer cans, trash left behind. Could split and splinter without notice.

If you can, please name the campground, that would be a good warning to others. This is pretty disturbing if someone did this on purpose

What campground? Did you report it to the park service?
