Summertime provides many amazing opportunities for observing the evening sky, according to Pat Hanrahan, director of the Planetarium at Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC).
Learn about the “Summer Sky Highlights and the Transit of Venus” on Monday, June 4, in the College’s final sky show of the academic year. Hanrahan will show visitors how to locate the planets and prominent constellations, star clusters, galaxies and nebulae. He will also review the recent solar eclipse that was visible from Oregon.
“Summer Sky Highlights and the Transit of Venus” will be presented live at 7 and 8:15 p.m. in the MHCC Planetarium Sky Theater, located near the library on the Gresham Campus, 26000 S.E. Stark Street. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions during each 45-minute program. Campus parking is free during the show and no permit is required.
Children are welcome to attend. The planetarium is wheelchair accessible. Admission for the general public is $2 and free for MHCC students. (Student identification required.) Planetarium shows are held the first Monday of each month, October through June.
