The Hood River toll bridge that allows people to cross from Oregon and Washington has always been a narrow bridge, so on June 29th, when two semi trucks going opposite directions crowded the center line a little too far, the result was both trucks rubbing together on the side and getting stuck. Traffic was backed up for about 40 minutes before they were able to unplug the traffic jam and get everyone moving again.

My Husband drives cement truck if he is going over that Bridge. I say a BIG Prayer. If another big rig passes they both rub tires on the outside guard rails. I worry that the guard rails might be getting weak, a big rig and driver goes in the river.

The Hood River Bridge is about 85 years old, and constant repairs have been disrupting traffic for over a year. In a recreational area like the Gorge, the idea that bikes and pedestrians can't cross is unacceptable but true. What can be done?

The Hood River Bridge was built by the State of Oregon in the late 40 or early 50s. Oregon no longer wanted it and the Port of Hood River accepted it from the State. The Port of Hood River uses the money from the Bridge to pay its other projects.

i have to commute across this bridge everyday. it sucks. always charged a toll and ALWAYS STUCK IN TRAFFIC.

I live in The Dalles. The Hood River Bridge was built by Hood River County in days of yore and has been a great source of funds for years. It is narrow and a wider one is in the future. The toll booth is only on the Oregon side.

The I-5 bridge is only 3 lanes of traffic each way, not 4.

It's funny they're replacing the I-5 bridge across the Columbia River, which is already four vehicle lanes each way and a widewalk each way. It looks like that money might have been better spent to replace this bridge.
