PORTLAND, Ore.—A five-alarm fire erupts early Sunday morning at the abandoned hotel on Hayden Island in north Portland.
Smoke was still seen billowing from the burned structure that was once the Thunderbird Inn.
Portland Fire & Rescue crew continued to extinguish the flames later that morning.
The fire attracted a few spectators onto the Interstate Bridge southbound span pedestrian sidewalk, offering an unobstructed view for taking pictures.
Drivers on the Interstate Bridge southbound span slowed down to look at the fire, which also caused heavy traffic congestion across the Columbia River and back into Vancouver.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
