Face it ,
Accidents do happen with these Solar Garden lights .
You have seen on Your tube where people are converting these things into USB chargers for cameras and cell phones.
Is it true, Can you really do this?
My answer is yes and with three Spotlights that I got from Wall Mart I was able to build a device that will charge my camera, and cell phone on a cloudy day.
The batteries that came withthe units were failing so I said what the heck.
Each one contains a removable 2.3 volt battery , yes that is correct a 2.3 Volt AA battery.
I removed the batteries and kept the charger circuits in place. These are the Key to doing this correctly
2.3 V X 3 is about 5.3 volts but wait,
the actual out put of the charging circuit with out the batteries inserted is 2.5( measured with a volt meter) volts each and 2.5 x 3 is about 7.5 volts out DC.
When a load is added, the volts and Drop to 6 volts on the money . The current is so low it will not damage charging circuits in devices, now if I had 10 of these panels connected, Damage would occur.
So before throwing away those old Solar Lanterns Try converting them. They also makes for a great school science project to do with you son or daughter.
You are doing 2 things. You are:
A) Recycling
B) You are using an alternative energy source to charge you addiction .
