My 9 y.o. son Eli has been itching to get out and try some new gear he got at the sportsman show. Well it looks like he got the right scent of power bait. We went to a favorite local pond today and he brought in these two beauties (plus one that I managed to lose trying to help him land it). I didn't manage one fish, and neither did anyone else we saw there. Wasn't actually planning on getting anything since it hadn't been stocked this year, but these must be hold-overs from last year since they cut nice and pink!
Hopefully his luck continues if we get out after some springers next weekend. He said he was "practicing" for the new barb-less rules when he was fighting these fish; keeping the line tight and not letting the fish's head break the surface.
