MY NEPHEW WAS KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN FRI.

My nephew, Andrew Jon Shields, was killed in Afghanistan Friday, May 30th, 2008. He was in the Army, and was a combat medic and Airborne Paratrooper.

He was 19 years old, and had only been in Afghanistan for about 2 months. He iived in Vancouver, WA / Battle Ground, WA his entire life, and graduated from Battle Ground High School in 2007.

He died doing what he wanted to do, serve his country.

May he rest in peace. He is a hero to his family and friends!!!

Even though I didn't know Andrew well we were at ait together. I do know he was a caring and good person. He had a big heart, you have to for a job like ours. He will always be remembered and missed.

My daughter was with your son in Basic and AIT. Because of the alphabet they were right next to each other for every formation etc....I am deeply sadden by your loss. God be with you and your family!

Andrew was in my sister company at AIT and he had the bunk next to mine at airborne school. Im glad I got to know him but regret we didnt get a chance to be better friends. You will be missed but you will not be forgotten, God speed my friend.

Andrew used to shoot Practical Shooting matches at Albany Rifle and Pistol Club back in 2003. We all mourn his loss and are thankful for his service.

I'll always remember Shields for his outgoingness. He was a guy who loved life. He always did everything to the fullest, whether it was a pt test, army training, having fun, or getting tatooed. I'll see you in the promised land Shields. RIP

I only knew Andrew for a short time but in that time he very much effected my life. The day before he left to Afganistan he said "theres no goodbyes in the Army Ill be back in no time". Goodbye Andrew, i wish i had been able to get to know you better

I just heard about Andrew's death from our other medic friend, who went to Afghanistan with Andrew. Andrew was a good medic, and he will be missed! Please email me ASAP Ms. Shields, as I will need to know more information about Andrew's funeral.

Ms. Shields, I am Andrew's battle buddy from both basic training and AIT. Andrew and I were both in 3rd Platoon, Delta Company in basic. We were also in the same company and the same bay in AIT.
