MY NEPHEW WAS KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN FRI.

My nephew, Andrew Jon Shields, was killed in Afghanistan Friday, May 30th, 2008. He was in the Army, and was a combat medic and Airborne Paratrooper.

He was 19 years old, and had only been in Afghanistan for about 2 months. He iived in Vancouver, WA / Battle Ground, WA his entire life, and graduated from Battle Ground High School in 2007.

He died doing what he wanted to do, serve his country.

May he rest in peace. He is a hero to his family and friends!!!

Even though I didn't know Andrew well we were at ait together. I do know he was a caring and good person. He had a big heart, you have to for a job like ours. He will always be remembered and missed.

Ms. Shields, I am Andrew's battle buddy from both basic training and AIT. Andrew and I were both in 3rd Platoon, Delta Company in basic. We were also in the same company and the same bay in AIT.
