Spring Chinook salmon: Ready your hooks!

We got up early, and drove thru rain, snow and hale towards the Bonneville dam, picking Isaac on the way there. We arrived at the parking lot by 6:30 am, grab our fishing gear and walked the trail half way in. It was a very cold morning with some rain, and windy, which made it much more colder. Once Isaac spot a small area along the shoreline, we stop and settled our gear on the ground, and start prepping. By 7:30 am, we were fishing, hooks in the water and rods on the rod's holders. Each of us cast our baits a few times looking to get as far as possible into the cold river waters where the salmon may be swimming. There were seven more fishermen trying to get theirs. Almost two hours later, by 9:15 am, something hit my bait and set off the bell on the rod, making lots of noises. I run to it and give it a fast pull and got the rod in my hands. I start reeling and keeping the tension in the line to avoid getting the fish loose. Everybody gather around us to see what kind of fish was that. A Fish and Wildlife officer came around to see the action and make sure we were doing everything within the law. He was happy to see us catching this big salmon. We saw the fish jumping up into the air, several times, trying to get loose but, I couldn't afford to let it go. I've been waiting for this moment for weeks. The fight to bring the fish last around 15 long minutes, and finally, Pedro and Isaac got the fish inside the net. We were all excited and happy, until Pedro shout "It's a wild!" I almost felt to the ground, after so much work and effort to get that fish, and we have to release it back into the river, because it wasn't a hatchery salmon! Wow! The excitement last the whole day and hopefully forever! We stayed there for another hour, and then went home.
