Rainbow straight across the ski

No arch like the usual rainbow, hugged the bottom of the clouds above the tree line.
No other signs of clouds or rainbow anywhere else in the sky.
The colors seeemed to roll from color to color, and the brightness of it came and went.
This happened today at 12:45 in South Albany.
This was very similar to "The Northern Lights", except it was the middle of the day.

That is a circumhorizon arc created by plate-shaped crystals. Here's a link that explains them and other atmospheric optics: http://www.atoptics.co.uk/halo/cha2.htm
