Aspartame is not a viable solution as it will harm those with PKU

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is announcing that the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) have filed a petition requesting that the Agency amend the standard of identity for milk and 17 other dairy products to provide for the use of any safe and suitable sweetener as an optional ingredient. FDA is issuing this notice to request comments, data, and information about the issues presented in the petition.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is an autosomal recessive metabolic genetic disorder characterized by a mutation in the gene for the hepatic enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH), rendering it nonfunctional.

Any products containing aspartame should be avoided. A special infant formula called Phenal-Aide is made for infants with PKU.

Even if you do not have PKU Aspertame is still a poison that does not need to be in our food.
and it must be clearly stated if it is added. As there are those that of us that do not want this poison in our foods.
