In only one year, 16 yr old Felix Carreira (resident of Salem, OR) has skyrocketed from daily practices in Mckay Park to touring the USA...Brazil...Germany...to WINNING FIRST PLACE IN WORLD CUP AUSTRIA last Saturday!!!

Read more details below...

Young 16 yr old, Felix Carreira, biked daily to Mckay Park, rain or shine, to practice the extreme sport, "slackline" which he had initially learned on the beaches of Brazil. He faithfully filmed his practices in order to analyze and improve his technique. He also posted several of his practices on youtube where he was noticed by Gibbon Slackline USA and invited for an all-expenses-paid trip to SLC where the top 32 international slackliners were competing. He was injured during this competition and flown home. Nothing could keep him down however!--After willing himself into recovery, he got himself into good enough shape so that he was invited to tour all of the US as a pro-athlete in official competitions such as the Dew Tour in San Francisco!! He practiced hard and slowly went up against all of the world's best, defeating them one by one! In May he had his first big win in Richmond, VA, against Gappai from Japan, Carlos Neto from Brazil and then Alex Mason, the highest ranking trickliner in the world...AND WON!! He went on to compete and win 1st place in Vail Colorado. By June 2013, Felix reached the ranking of "International Top 8"!! This qualified him to compete and be flown, (all expenses paid) to any International Competition that takes place anywhere on the globe!! After flying to Germany and Brazil, he landed in Austria on Friday, Aug. 30th. The next day, (Saturday, August 31st) HE WON FIRST PLACE IN THE WORLD CUP IN AUSTRIA!! He went against Benni Schmit (German), Alex Mason (World Champion, USA) and Carlos Neto (Madonna tour slackliner, Brasil) and WON ALL OF THEM!!

He left a determined, focused, and as of yet, unknown young man and now returns to Portland, Oregon on Sept. 4th, an International Champion!!
