PORTLAND, Ore—Two series of thunderstorms rolled through the Portland area Sunday afternoon and evening, sparking off lightning, rumbling thunder and heavy downpours.
The storm drew in many spectators to watch the lightning flash and hear the thunder rumble from the top of Rocky Butte in east Portland, a public park on a high butte where spectators can get an unobstructed panoramic view of the Portland area.
Despite the dangerous risk of being struck by lightning from a butte with one strike already whipping directly above the butte, many spectators stayed to watch the storm until the rain started to fall, then dashed for their cars.
Two men were reportedly struck by lightning earlier today in Damascus, Ore., with one man reportedly in serious condition and another man reportedly in stable condition.
