Knife on Carryon

AIRLINE SECURITY CONCERNS!!

I'm writing regarding my concerns for airport security. A friend and I just flew in to Portland Oregon two days ago from Quito Ecuador. My friend had purchased a 6" knife from Ecuador as seen in the attached picture. She forgot about the knife completely and left it in the carry on bag among all of our other souveniers. Our original flight was cancelled so we went through a total of four different countries with this knife in our carry on bag. We flew from Quito Ecuador to Bogota Columbia, to Panama City, to Los Angeles to Portland Oregon. We switched planes at each stop and the knife was in the carry on the entire time! The bag went through the x ray machines at each location and in Panama City and Bogata they searched through the bag by hand also but obviously not well. This was very concerning as people's lives are endangered due to faulty security. Please forward this email to the appropriate email address if this is not.

Big deal. A knife gets through security. So what? Someone pulls a knife during a flight and makes threatening remarks, won't be alive when the plane lands. They'll be picking him up with a sponge.

Yes - this size and shape item should be very easy to detect - worrying when you think of all we need go through at security.

I frequently fly out of PDX to Asia and have noticed a change over the last 6 months. ASA now seems more concerned with moving people through than providing actual security. Still can't get my sake through SFO on a connecting flight, however.

That's bad, yes, but at least the airport wasn't providing the weapon. Strip search (almost) in Reno only to find beer bottles *everywhere* in the 'secure' part of the airport. What's a better weapon (edged & blunt) than glass??? I love TSA...

And I go through airport security with nothing dangerous and practically have to strip down to my underwear to get through.

I had a similar experience last week flying out of the Portland airport. I had a fairly good size knife in my purse that I had forgotten about. I went through security without even being searched and was able to get it on the plane no problem.
