Fire on the mountain!!

I grew up in Trout Lake, WA, and now I live and work in Gresham, OR. Saturday night I was fishing up at Goose Lake which is towards the mountain from the Trout Lake Valley. On the way down my dad and I spotted a little fire on the mountain. My dad recently retired from the Forest Service after 33 years, the last 17 years were in Trout Lake. We stopped by the Ranger Station on our way down the mountain to be sure that they knew about the fire. They did. It was late but people were around. They were watching it and unable to do anything until the morning which is normal. Everyone was worried because they knew that the area where the fire was burning was "standing dead"... an area of the forest just begging to catch a spark and explode into fire. Some people were worried, some were relieved because this fire has been a long time coming and is much needed to clean out the area. The next morning we were surprised at the extreme smoke and rate at which the fire grew. My parent's house is the closest house to the mountain that is on the valley floor and not surrounded by trees. They have a good view of the smoke. My dad called this morning (7/15) to tell me “Don’t come up if you are hoping to see anything. The valley is full of smoke”. This means that the wind must have shifted south. Hopefully this is short lived! If not, the valley is in some danger. The wind almost never blows anywhere but East in Trout Lake...
