Yesterday while we were hiking the "Gnarl ridge fire" went from less than 200 acres and 50% containment to 800 acres and 5% containment. A Meadows empolyee said it " exploded" Saturday. We hiked the Umbrella falls trail on the eastern border of Meadows until we got to Timberline trail.
Then we hiked up and traversed across, Mitchell creek, lower gulch, across lower marmot ridge and then up chunky swirly to the top of blue and Mt. Hood express. This picture is looking over the Mt. Hood Express off load station from Blue off load ramp. It looks like the fire is right on top Shooting Star when it is actually 2 ridges and many miles away. Big fire!!
