Yesterday a Bethany man, Robert Middleton, watched as his car was suddenly crushed by a tree. Apparently he was standing on his apartment porch when a tree, less then 50 feet away toppled over onto his parked car. The tree was located in a protected wet lands area owned by the apartment complex. According to Robert the property managers claim no responsibility stating it was “an act of god”. Robert states he did not have insurance coverage on his car because of financial distress. Also according to Robert the property manager at Bethany Meadows stated to him that they had hired a company to come out and survey the wet land area and the existing tree’s for there health, as well as to remove the downed tree from his parking space. Robert is very concerned for the other tenants and young children that play in the exact area the tree fell. The main stump of the tree stills remains and with a large nest of some sort of insect. Robert believes that may have been the cause of the problem. Robert plans to write a letter to the corporate office of the GSL owned Bethany Meadows apartment complex and ask that they maintain there property and look into the reason the tree’s are falling, apparently this is not the first tree to fall on the property in that area. Robert had even called the city of Portland and the leasing office 2 years earlier when a tree fell on his garage.
