“GO ON HOU SHA”
Buddhist Daihonzan Henjyoji Temple will be celebrating Aki Matsuri (Fall Festival) 2008 on Saturday, November 8 and Sunday, November 9, 2008, from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm. The temple is located at 2634 SE 12th Ave. (12th and Clinton), Portland, OR 97202. (503) 232-6352. Donation: $5.00. The festival will feature an ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) exhibition by Saga Goryu Hokubei Shisho (Saga Goryu School, North American branch). Demonstrations of “ The Way of Tea” (Chado), “Kou Asobi “ (Enjoying incense) and other activities will be featured.
“Gratitude” can be described as being thankful, appreciative, indebted, or grateful. This year’s Aki Matsuri 2008 theme is Go On Hou Sha- Gratitude. Go On Hou Sha has a wide and profound definition. In addition to gratitude, the implied meaning includes indebtedness of other’s assistance, support and kind influence for success. Buddhist Daihonzan Henjyoji Temple has remained a viable entity in the Portland area for the last 50 years. During that time Saga Goryu Hokubei Shisho under the umbrella organization of Nippon Bunka Gaku In (Japanese Cultural Academy) continues. It has been 70 years since the Late Zengan Daiyu Henjyoji brought ikebana to the United States, by having his first ikebana exhibition in Stockton California. Two thousand and Eight also, commemorates 55 years of continued teaching of Saga Goryu Ikebana at the temple by Hoin Wako Henjyoji. The temple is grateful to all who made the success and continuation of the temple activities possible.
Local Potters Motoko Hori and Ken Pincus and Anne Iverson, and local produce, chow mein and sushi will be available for sale.
