On July 3 my friend lost her best friend, spooked by the fireworks for the holiday.
A medium-sized, yellow, dingo-ish dog with huge ears -- one that stands straight up and one that falls sideways -- Cheena had been so frightened by the fireworks she'd chewed through her mesh collar, wriggled through the dog door, squeezed through the tiny space between the chain-link fence and the gate, and run for her life.
Still checking Craigslist every day, hoping to hear something, anything about her location or new home.
She's offering a $500 reward for Cheena's return, those instances underline the kindness of everyone else.
