My dad and I went clam digging this past weekend in Long Beach, WA. My dad was raised on the coast and is a veteran to clam digging, but this was my first time ever!

The first clam I dug by myself was a giant! We guessed the shell was about 5 or 5 1/2 inches, but when we brought it home, we measured it and it came out as 6.2 inches! We were very excited because someone told us they read in the local newspaper in Long Beach the biggest one they had was 5 1/2 inches long...neither of us have EVER broken a record, so this was very exciting.

as a bartender on the penninsula, working at Doc's Tavern for 6 of the last 8 years in my tenure the largest clam i have measured in our tavern "Big clam contest" has been, 6 & 5/8 inches, during the '05, '06 season
