Hummingbird in snow, taking a sip.

Hummingbird in the snow.

I have had this hummingbird feeder all year and never got a nibble. We opened the blinds to watch the storm and this little guy showed up and tried to feed then flew away (the feeder was empty). While he/she was gone I cleaned the feeder and filled it up and got my camera. Sure enough, he/she came back. Seems weird to me but I don't know much about birds and their migrations. I'm just glad somebody finally used the feeder.

He. Note the pronounced throat patch. My guess is the rest of the year you have good natural food sources they prefer. All hummingbirds feed their young insects, and tend to shun feeders in July and August while they become insectivores.
