Our little chihuahua, Lucky, has a jacket to wear, but it still doesn't cover his head. And with the temperature between zero and twenty degrees, depending on the time of day or evening, it seemed only smart to make him a head and neck warmer.
A pair of my husband's work socks were destined for the trash, but on second thought appeared like the ideal thing to use.
Keeping the sock heel-side up, I cut below the orange toe line, to provide an opening for his face/muzzle. This kept the orange toe-piece intact, and made it like a little hat.
I then cut slots for the ears, The whole head/neck warmer was made using just the foot of the sock.
When I slipped it over Lucky's head, he immediately laid down, and rested. We had just come inside the house, after his pre-bedtime peeing, and the warmth was apparently soothing and relaxing.
A great head and neck warmer! It cost nothing but a few moments of my time. I pass this on, just in case there are others out there, with dogs little enough to wear the foot of a sock.
