The hike to Jefferson Park this late summer was amazing! I have been putting my mind in a warmer place due to our current weather situation, and this one tops my list. Located in the Mt. Jefferson wilderness, this area is truly a must see. The wilderness can be reached off hwy 22, or via the 4220 road, also known as the Skyline road. Righteously named, the 4220 will take you past many lakes, most are hike in and most are stocked. Jefferson park is the highlight of the wilderness area, an alpine meadow at the base of Mt. Jeff. It is about a 7.5 mile hike in from the parking area near Breitenbush lake. This is a hike where you should stay overnight to rest, relax, and get in some fishing and world class scenery. This area is only accessable a few months out of the year, due to the elevation. Make sure you bring lots of mosquito repellant as well! This area is great breeding ground for them, due to the many lakes and wet areas. The Mt. Jefferson wilderness is under jurisdiction of the Willamette national forest; please check with them regarding maps, permits, and regulations.
Mt. Jefferson wilderness, an oregon gem.
