My husband came downstairs last Saturday morning to this hummingbird going around and around, trying in vain to "lick the popsicle" beneath all six little yellow plastic flowers on the feeder. We didn't realize until then that Anna's are here all winter! Since then, we've been keeping the feeder indoors at night to defrost. This male Anna's, a real bully we've begun calling "Biff," has successfully defended his prize against other male Anna's. He is bold enough to sit right next to the kitchen window, especially when the east wind is blowing. Are the female Anna's resident here (SW Portland) all winter too? We haven't seen any since summer. Hang in there, Biff! Hopefully just a few more days of bitter cold pouring down that mean old Gorge!
