We have 13 chickens, 8 of which are considered teenagers. They have never seen the snow before. Until this week that is. Every morning they pop their heads out of their coop and take a peek around and then come outside to forage around and do their chicken thing.
Well this morning, there was a considerable amount of snow on the ground. After 3 days of the white stuff, I think the girls had decided they had enough, because one of the teenagers popped her head out of the coop, saw the snow and then went back inside. And then none of the chickens came out! They were waiting for their fearless leader to go first, and she wasn't going anywhere!
My husband finally had to remove her from the coop and put her down on the ground, and then all the other girls followed suit.
The rest of the day they were all fine wandering around the yard, eating random pieces of grass and birdseed and whatever poor helpless bug that was to be found. I think that they seemed to enjoy the snow for the most part, it just was a bit scary this morning.
We'll see how they react tomorrow to the ice...they may not come out at all! I might have pictures of ice skating chickens!
